WHAT’S SO DANG FASCINATING?

Volunteer Naturalist training Day 3 was really great. We spent four hours out on the trails looking at everything we might want to point out to kids or answer questions about.  Spring is doing its thing with buds and flowers peeking out everywhere. The quiet forest part of the refuge is being pierced by the calls and chirps of returning birds eager to get on with mating and nesting.

The whole loop was only about a mile and a half so we gave give it a detailed inspection. This group of people is interested in every detail of nature. For instance, the people in the picture above are riveted by…a pile of coyote poop. Whoo-boy! Naturalists poke at animal scat with stir-sticks from a large coffee chain. There were signs of small rodent bones in it. Cool!
